Palms is proud of its up-to-date use of technology on campus.
Almost every classroom has computers used by students and the teacher. Palms has more than half a dozen mobile carts, each with a classroom set of laptop computers, with plans to add additional carts. Palms has a mixture of PC and Macintosh computers. Curriculum-specific software is selected by teachers.
The school has a high-speed Internet connection with a network throughout the campus. Attendance and grades are done via the network. Students in some classes can check their grades on campus or from home and download assignments from their teacher's website.
Palms offers a computer class elective where students learn advanced graphics and web design skills.
Many classrooms have digital projectors, interactive whiteboards, or other equipment used to enhance teaching. The School Library has two banks of computers used by students for library and Internet research. The main office has a computerized phone system programmed with the numbers of parents, used to keep parents informed of both routine and emergency information. Intercoms and a public address system connect all classrooms to the main office.
In 2011 we added our first tablet computers in classrooms: a set of iPads, in a mobile cart, shared by a number of teachers. We're building a collection of subject-specific "apps", each matching a teacher's curriculum, to give teachers the software they can best use with their lessons.
Use of technology has been directed by the Palms Technology Committee since 1994.
