Ballet Folklórico Son de la Palma is an after-school class on Mondays from 3:00 to 5:00pm, where students learn and perform traditional Mexican dances.

It's a great opportunity for students interested in performing arts, dance, and Mexican culture. The program has added to our school's performing arts program, and helped it grow. Please join us in supporting this wonderful experience for our youth and community.

Some of our students participated in Ballet Folklórico at their elementary schools. We are glad they have a chance to continue.

We expect to have at least one public performance during this school year. We'll announce them once they are scheduled.

Parent Meeting: November 28

For a successful program, a strong parent group is needed.

Parents interested in our Ballet Folklórico program were invited to a meeting in November 2016 to discuss ideas for fundraising for dance costumes.

The parent group will work with Friends of Palms as we seek grants, donations, or other fundraising opportunities. We'll be able to re-use the dance outfits each year.

The goal was to appoint officers at the meeting:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer

Meet the Teacher

Ballet Folklórico is taught by Ms. Monica Magaña, a volunteer UCLA student. She is a member of UCLA's Ballet Folklórico.

Ms. Magaña volunteered because of her love of dance, culture, and of educating children. She was first introduced to ballet folklórico as a child. She is now very excited to have the opportunity to teach middle school students.

Ms. Magaña stated, “I want to give these students the great experience and cultural knowledge that my middle school dance teacher gave to me.”

Please donate  here

  • Our students have worked very hard and mastered the dances from two Mexican states.
  • Our goal is to purchase two separate sets of dance costumes.
  • With these costumes our students will have the opportunity to perform for their parents, teachers, classmates, and community.
  • Your generous donation to help purchase our students' costumes will provide endless opportunities for our students to perform, create positive role models, and promote cultural awareness.
  • You will also encourage youth to celebrate their cultural roots, and continue onto institutions of higher learning like UCLA.
  • Your donation will be greatly appreciated, and will be a permanent asset to the group, school, and community for years to come.
